May be it is a matter of interviewer's own testability, reaching their threshold. since nobody knows everything and everybody knows at least something. With their task at hand to eliminate all presumptions against the favourable outcome(s) and resultantly lending a better opportunity in disguise, knowingly or unknowingly.
Oh, I feel such empathy for this that it’s painful. As a private lawyer, I have struggled throughout my career with that feeling of not belonging (particularly in relation to Oxbridge). Like you I don’t come from wealth or a legal dynasty. All I can say is - you are not alone.
